I have known Li Yaolin for many years and often see his paintings and articles in newspapers and magazines. His articles are fairly sharp; his paintings are quite outstanding.  He is an artist who paints with thoughts. Recently, he gave me two new collections; one is his new oil paintings collection, another is his ink wash paintings collection.  At the side of each work, he wrote a short essay by himself, through which I see his profound artistic thought and the cause of his creation.

In fact, Li Yaoli involves in a wide range of art practices. Apart from oil painting and ink wash painting, he also practices calligraphy and articles. He concerns the public art construction in cities, too.  His profound study of the brush ink and aesthetic spirit of Chinese painting as well as contemporary western art concept, modeling rule and formal beauty laid a solid foundation for his more comprehensive and profound understanding of art.  His painting subject is mainly landscape. In his oil painting, the sea tides, mountains and rivers, prairies are magnificent. The colors of different seasons and time are abundant and heavy, full of the charm of eastern art. The image on the canvas is expressive,  full of abstract beauty and carries unique humanistic care spirit of contemporary art. His ink wash paintings of residential buildings with wisdoms of more than 1000years such as cottages in Yunnan and Guizhou, wood stockades in Sichuan and Xizang, riverside stilted houses and folk houses in riverside towns present the essence of Chinese modeling art and the extensiveness and profoundness of cultures and art, as well as his deep love and regret of the architect treasures which are gradually losing in the development of urbanization over the past 100 years. He regards folk houses and nature, ecology, culture and history as a whole, which is well expressed in his paintings and articles. Li Yaolin is a serious and responsible modern artist.

Li Yaolin visits plateaus, rivers, forests and fields for painting, with respect and love for the Nature.  he is used to traveling in the pursuit for art and refines beauty from the Nature. Therefore,  his art creation is abundant in life source, carries pure regional culture characteristics and contains serious art thoughts. He studies both traditional spirits of brush ink and Chinese culture and modern Western modeling art and art artistic ideology and gives much attention to Eastern and Western cultural thoughts, values and contemporary changes.
